Blue Hair!
When Mike started working for SpaceX, I was astounded at the level of personal expression by employees at work. There was a guy with a foot-tall mohawk, and on company broadcasts, female engineers with pink hair. At a movie screening, I even saw employees with face tattoos. You do you, guy!
In corporate America where conformity is the norm, I never felt like dying my hair fashion colors would be widely accepted. “Bring your whole self to work” was more a tagline than an edict. So, after quitting my job and being able to work from home for a progressive company, I finally could try it out. When my friend Van’s salon in Hermosa Beach finally opened up to customers in June, we decided to do it. After a lifetime of being a responsible person, it was time to be me.

After
These blue highlights were just what I had in mind. The first time we tried two different shades some of it turned out more aqua and green.
Excuse me, miss…
Most of the time, I forgot I had even changed my hair color, but people did treat me differently! I was getting carded at the grocery store and called “miss”. Mike: “Did they not see the wrinkles?” No matter, it was fun and I liked it.
