NYE 2020
In 2019, I had resolved just to do more fun things that made me happy, and also to do nice things for other people. It didn’t seem like much of a plan in hindsight, but I did very much enjoy celebrating my parents’ anniversary at Terranea and and the Friday afternoons I took off to have coffee with friends or explore a new part of LA in 2019.
My friend Salam suggested having an early dinner at the Manhattan Beach Post and booked us a table for 5:15pm. Neither her nor Mike typically like to go out on NYE - it’s too noisy, too crowded and too expensive. So I was thrilled with her plan. We arrived at Manhattan Beach just in time to find parking and catch the last sunset of the decade. Lots of people were on the pier and the boardwalk; I guess this is a California tradition! Casually-dressed families with kids and pets were biking, skateboarding and jogging. The sunset was beyond beautiful and for once in my life I was happy just to be home.
We had met Salam and Bryan at our resort in the Cook Islands exactly two years ago, and discovered that we lived a few miles apart! Our dinner of hot fried chicken and lobster mac and cheese was amazing, as were the cheddar and bacon biscuits. Time to bring on 2020! At this age, the journey is as much internal as external. This celebration was just my speed and I hope it becomes a tradition. Cheers!
