The Price is Right!
One of the benefits of living in LA is that lots of TV shows are filmed here - though mostly they film during the week when I’m at work. My friend Jason got tickets to the Price is Right on a Monday afternoon in December. They film at CBS Studios, which is next to The Grove in LA. So why not?
Jason M.
…and I met at The Minute Maid Company in Houston about 19 years ago through Robert Nishikawa. Jason lived in Texas until a month ago, when he sold his house and all his belongings except what would fit in his Toyota SUV and moved to Orange County.
Although I hadn’t watched The Price is Right in probably 30 years, the show is still going strong. We were able to take a few photos before our phones were taken away.
The Line
About 300 people vie for the chance to win LOTS OF PRIZES. I was terrified about being chosen, but seeing that only 9 people actually make it up on stage, our chances were 3% or less. Lots of families wore matching custom t-shirts.
We were asked to arrive at 1pm. The show does not start taping until 4pm, and is done by 5:30 or so.
The Green Screen
Part of the waiting includes getting your name tags and showing your personality in a photo booth and are interviewed. Most of the people in line seemed to be in the military, or nurses, teachers, retirees and housewives. And they were having a blast! There was excitement in the air. Drew Carey was the host and spoke with the audience during commercial breaks. As luck would have it, the woman seated next to me was called down, so I will likely be on TV on February 24, 2020!
It was definitely a very fun way to spend an afternoon. I realized that I have no clue what lots of ever day things cost, like dog food. I enjoyed catching up with Jason, and afterwards we went to dinner in Beverly Hills at the Casa Blanca. The streets were decorated for the Christmas season and it was a blast!
