Live a little, live a lot...

The idea came to me while on vacation in Thailand with my friends and Mike last October.  The things that make me happiest in mid-life are the same as when I was in my twenties: experiencing new things with people that I like, and friends that I have yet to meet.  In four years, I'll be half a century old - why not make the most of it while I still can?

My parents inspired in me a love of travel, having taken us on many trips abroad and in Canada since I was little.  Bill Gates said: "The Wright Brothers created the single greatest cultural force since the invention of writing.  The airplane became the first world wide web, bringing people, language and values together."

The ideas from two pieces of art stayed with me long after I saw them.  One was from a photograph in a  museum (outside of Copenhagen), of a house that had been constructed "inside out" on a remote island in Iceland.  The wallpaper and curtains hung on the outside walls of the small house, and the shingles were on the inside; in effect saying that the world was his home.  Someone I met on the plane later remarked that it could also mean that one can know the world, but still not know themselves.  Another sculpture that stayed with me (from the museum in the Old Town of Tallinn)  was a carving from a tree trunk of an angry old man with his arm reaching out, desperately to catch a beautiful young nymph who was just out of grasp.  Don't we all wish to stay young forever?

To make up for the fact I'm not on Facebook, I've set up this site to document current and upcoming adventures. As one of my dearest friends or family, here is your invitation: 50 adventures by 50 (or 2021), won't you please join me?  Adventures can be big or small, planned or unexpected, at home or abroad.

So come along for a little fun; there's no time like the present!
